„Wood Cutter”
Ion Andreescu (1850–1882)
In Ion Andreescu’s landscape paintings nature always seems alive and the painter suggests its creative power. The artist was not limited to visual sensations, but was concerned with the nature of things, the forces that animate it, its organic tissue, and the meditative accent shines through its landscapes. The trunks of the trees represented are energetic, strong, full of life. The sap extracted from the soil seems to flow through them, through the roots that are vigorously inserted into the soil. Both the grass and the trunks of the trees are captured in an extraordinarily realistic way, the artist revealing their physiology. Man is not usually present in I. Andreescu’s landscapes, and if a human form sometimes appears, this one merges with nature.
