Constanta Art Museum
„Corner of the Povernei Street”
Ștefan LUCHIAN (1868–1916)
The painting was made in 1903 and exhibited for the first time in 1904, at the manifestation of Artistic Youth, then at the personal exhibition of the artist. In 1914, the painter exhibited this work again together with his reply, then entitled “Summer.” Quickly laid out and unstoppable, the color describes a radiant summer day. On a modest exterior wall, almost pulverized outer wall, the rays of light make up an abstract canvas, which is paced by the trunks of green trees. The vacant lot and the wall of the house, the metal fence sent on one side of the image, the trunks and corollas of the trees, intensely colored and illuminated, the sky seen in some places, benefit from a remarkable stylistic unity.
