„Flowers”
Sava Henția (1848–1904)
Still lifes with flowers are among the most suggestive paintings of Sava Henția, revealing his lyrical vocation. The artist focuses on the decorative aspect generated by the arrangement of the flower bouquet in the vase. Distributed asymmetrically, on a vertical accentuated by the positions of the leaves and corollas, by overlapping colors, the flowers of S. Henția describe a light composition, in which the shapes fade from the spontaneous joining of the color spots. The background, although dark, is not neutral, but seems to advance around the trembling and fresh petals. The flowers in the bouquet flow to the base of the vase, in the lower area, where the brush used is identical, both for the support and for the flowers.
