„Landscape”
Sabin POPP (1895–1928)
The landscape was the genre that allowed the painter Sabin Popp a greater and more obvious availability in figurative meanings and plastic signs, through which he communicated his personality, based on a classic way of receiving nature. The painting was made during a painter’s trip to Vâlcov and is a masterpiece in which the impression of the real, the natural, is doubled by a mystery that belongs to a closed but privileged space. As a reference element, of stability, in light shades of sky-blue, there is a house, seen through the vault of the trees, which is reflected in the water whose color borrows from the shades in which the landscape is painted. The composition is chromatically dominated by the green tones detached from the rich foliage of the trees. The house is like a lake settlement, and the frontality of the forms frozen in firm lines, in a quiet light, and the lack of human characters double the figurative elements that belong to a place of relaxation, reverie and mystery.
