“The work Grove Edge from the collection of the Dinu and Sevasta Vintilă Topalu Art Museum presents a spatial composition favoured by Tonitza in these years. From a warm foreground, of vegetation, the silhouettes of three green trees stand out on the bay and the hills of Balcic … The rhythm of this work, as with certain musical compositions, is based on the descending measure of the number three: trunks, masses of foliage, gentle slopes, alternation of elements of landscape, groupings of lines and shapes written on oblique or vertical courses. Although the dominant color of the painting is a warm green, different measures of ocher appear in the crowns of the trees and on the shore’s dwarf with dwarf vegetation, while a pearly and transparent pink insinuates itself into the composition of the other spatial forms. This gives the painting originality and graceful unity” – (Doina Păuleanu, The Group of Four)
