„Venice”

Nicolae DĂRĂSCU (1883–1959)

N. Dărăscu was a lover of Venice, which he visited and painted countless times. Its Venetian landscapes capture the city from different angles, with a predilection for boats, waterways or the port area. The chromatic palette reproduces the painter’s fascination for the play of light on the expanses of water, but also for the architecture of the lagoon city, the water-light symbiosis being the key to understanding the artist’s attraction for this area of Italy. The paper highlights the careful study of the relationship between color and light, fascinating by the ways of decomposing the color spectrum. The colorful touches that form the luster of calm water reflect the color palette of gondolas, buildings and vegetation. The complementary contrast formed by the warm colors of the buildings, with the green of the vegetation and the way they are reflected in the ultramarine of the water, with which it mixes as in a kind of paving mosaic, offers the viewer unique optical effects.
