„Balchik”
Nicolae DĂRĂSCU (1883–1959)
Nicolae Dărăscu was one of the Romanian painters who fell in love with Balchik, to whom he dedicated a whole series of paintings. The view framed by the artist captures the geographical details of the place; the calcareous hill, with sporadic presence of vegetation, which closes the composition on the left, directs the gaze to the houses lined at its base, which advances to the place where the land joins the sea. The sea is perceived by the artist as static, as in all the paintings in which he rendered it, holding in the economy of the image only a part of the high background necessary for the chromatic perspective. The need for harmony and stability has hardened the fluidity of the sea in the solar serenity of light. Careful study of the relationship between color and light enhances the colors of nature and highlights striking contrasts.
