„Still Life”
Constantin D. Stahi (1844–1920)
In the whole of C. D. Stahi’s paintings, still life gradually became a major and favorite genre, carrying primary meanings, a specific and original way of communicating to the artist. The painting shows a plate of cherries, and the fruits are painted in detail, with leaves and stalks. The composition is individualized by axial symmetry, and point reflections of light highlight the shape, volume and materiality of the cherries. Chromatically, we witness a subtle correspondence, a mixture of ocher and neutral browns, between the fruits that occupy the center of the composition and the background of the painting.
